Community Tanahberu "Off" Phinisi

Village Community Sapolohe, District Tanahberu, Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, held a ritual ceremony launching Phinisi sailboat on the beach Bontobahari, Bulukumba, Friday.

Ritual release Phinisi ship was held after the ship was made for eight months more in the village which has established a reputation as a maker of traditional wooden boat known in the world.

Shipbuilding Project Head, H. Arwin when found in the location of shipbuilding in Bulukumba said the procession involving indigenous elders known as "Panrita Lopi" to pray for the ship when you first touch the water.

"This ritual must be done every beginning and end of the vessel, as a form of safety of ships while at sea as well as workers who are always associated with sharp objects," he said.

He admitted, Phinisi ship orders from Jakarta businessman was undertaken since March 2010 with the use of labor as many as 18 villagers who did have a gift for making boats.

"Since 2003, already three Phinisi with cruise ship model that has been made and 20 Phinisi type cargo ship," he said.

Every start building the ship, he admitted that he should follow the local custom customs cut the goats and chickens as offerings starting form reinforcements for the safety of the crew and passengers.

"The head of the goat is usually a symbol of starting the plague, when workers first built a 'keel' (base boat) just below the 'navel' (main point) the ship," he said.
